Mutares is committed to deaf children – Christmas donation for Aid Kenya

Munich, 16 December 2020 – Instead of buying Christmas presents for customers and business partners, Mutares SE & Co. KGaA decided to support the project Aid Kenya this year. Already in 2019, Donges Group supported the charitable organization Aid Kenya Watoto e.V., founded in the Rhineland. Together with Donges Group, the donation will be used for the construction of new residential buildings. In addition, the Donges Group, as the largest holding of Mutares Group, supports the upcoming measures with comprehensive construction know-how.

Aid Kenya was founded in August 2014 and since then has done valuable work with deaf children. A school with two classrooms, a fully equipped kitchen that provides regular meals, a dining/community room, a henhouse and a dormitory for children and teachers were built. Step by step Aid Kenya Watoto e.V. was able to finance and maintain more and more facilities, which now offer 50 deaf children a place to learn and live. This year’s donation will be used to build an additional dormitory so that girls and boys can be accommodated in separate buildings, which is mandatory in Kenya. In addition, Aid Kenya will then be able to take in even more children.

“Social commitment is a matter of course for the Mutares Group,” says Johannes Laumann, CIO of Mutares SE & Co. KGaA. “We, the Mutares family, are aware of our social responsibility and are pleased to support the important voluntary work of Aid Kenya Watoto e.V. The aid starts where it is most needed, with children who live in extreme poverty and without initiatives such as this, they would not receive any school education. Also and especially as a family father, it is important to me that our donation provides a bit of hope and the chance for a self-determined life”, Johannes Laumann continues.
